What and Why
Returning Wrenches with existing profiles: Log in instructions
You are now able to edit your own profiles, but you will need to send an email message to Michael to have your account activated. Please be sure to clearly identify yourself, and include your email address and profile name. You will receive a return email with specific log in instructions.

After you have completed the above step and your account is activated, you may log in anytime thereafter to edit your profile using your password.

What is this member list, and why should I sign up?
This member list is provided as a resource for the members of the Renewable Energy Wrenches mailing list. It's purpose is to allow the various members of the list to share personal and business information, and to serve as an "address book" for those users.
Wrenches? What's That?
"Wrench" is the nickname given to those working in the Renewable Energy industry, installers, distributors, industry representatives, manufacturers technicians, etc.
This looks different. What happened to the "old" Wrenches Profile Pages?
The previous version of this member list used individual HTML-based web page documents, one for each profile. This new member list uses a database and templates to store and create pages with the Wrenches Mailing List member's profiles in them. What this means is that now it is possible to assign user names and passwords so that each Wrench is capable of posting and editing his or her own information without Administrator assistance. The "old" pages were all hand-coded and posted, and when edits were necessary, that had to be done manually as well. Now each Wrench can log in to make their own changes.
The information contained in the database was copy-and-pasted from the "old" profile pages, and is as accurate as the previous version (we hope). In addition, because the information is contained in a secure database instead of individual web pages, information like e-mail addresses and phone numbers should be more secure from prying webugs and robots.
Registration Agreement
In case you would like to read the Registration Agreement again, or missed it because your profile was transferred into the new member list from the old, here it is:

Thank you for taking the time to register with the Renewable Energy Wrenches Member List.

It is important before we continue that you know that this member list is reserved for participants in the RE-wrenches mailing list for professional installers. Only persons who have been approved for membership are eligible to submit profile information to this member list. If you are not already an authenticated member of the RE Wrenches mailing list, you must first request RE-wrenches list membership before submitting profile information to this member list. Please also note that submitting profile information here does not constitute application for membership on the mailing list, they are separate procedures.

Once you have filled out the profile information on the form that follows this agreement page, your name and email address will be sent to the mailing list administrator for authorization. The authorization itself may take from an hour to a day or two, depending on the administrator's schedule. If you do not receive authorization within 7 days, please email the administrator using the address provided in the "FAQ" section of this site.

This member list system uses cookies to store information on your local computer. These cookies do not contain any of the information you will enter on the registration forms, they serve only to improve your viewing pleasure. The e-mail address is used only for confirming your registration details and password (and for sending new passwords should you forget your current one).

Login and Registration Issues
Why can't I log in?
Have you registered? Seriously, you must register in order to log in. If you have registered and you still cannot log in then check and double-check your log in name and password (both are contained in the email message you should have received after registering). Usually this is the problem; if not, contact the board administrator -- they should be able to correct the problem.
Why do I need to register at all?
Registration is required because it allows you and only you to access the information contained in your profile. By logging in with your name and password, you may change or append the information contained in your profile any time you wish, as often as you wish.
Why do I get logged off automatically?
The member list will only keep you logged in for a preset time (60 minutes). This prevents misuse of your account by anyone else if you access the member list from a shared computer, e.g. library, internet cafe, university cluster, etc.
I've lost my password!
Don't panic! While your password cannot be retrieved it can be reset. To do this go to the login page and click I forgot my password. Follow the instructions and you should be back online in no time.
I registered but cannot log in!
First check that you are entering the correct username and password. Your account needs activating. This member list requires all new registrations be activated by the administrator before you can log on. When you registered it told you that activation was required. If you were sent an email then follow the instructions; if you did not receive the email then check that your email address is valid. Activation is used because this member list is restricted to members of the RE mailing list. If you are sure the email address you used is valid then try contacting the board administrator.
I registered in the past but cannot log in anymore!
The most likely reasons for this are: you entered an incorrect username or password (check the email you were sent when you first registered) or the administrator has deleted your account for some reason.
Where's your COPPA agreement information?
COPPA (Children's Online Privacy Protection Rule) is designed to protect persons under the age of 13 years by placing restrictions on the collection and display of that child's personal information. This member list is open by invitation only to industry professionals whom have reached the age of majority. Each profile submission is carefully scrutinized and non-qualifying profiles are completely deleted from the system. In no event will the personal information, including but not limited to names or e-mail addresses of any person under the age of 13 ever be collected or displayed on this site.

Member Profiles
How do I show an image or logo at the top of my profile?
An image, photo, or logo is allowed at the top of your profile which is up to 200 by 200 pixels. The dialog to insert the image will not appear for users who are first registering, but appears for returning users and new registrants the first time their profile is edited.

There are two ways to insert the image:

1). The image may already be hosted at a web site somewhere. To add the image to your profile, simply provide the full path to the image in the space provided in your profile control panel. Be sure to include the http:// before the address.

2). If you do not have a host for your image, it is possible to upload the image using the controls in your profile edit control panel. Click 'Choose' next to the 'Upload Image from your machine' dialog box. A window will open allowing you to browse your local hard disk drive for the image file you wish to use. Click 'Open' after selecting the file and you are done.

Images can be deleted by checking the 'Delete Image' box under the image.

Why do you need to know my home address? There's some information that I don't want to provide.
You do not have to fill out all lines in the form, for instance, you may prefer to not reveal your home telephone, etc. All of this information is voluntary. Supply as much or as little information as you like. No member should judge another by fields left blank in their profile. We do require that you fill out the "Business Information" section in your profile as completely as possible. NONE OF THIS INFORMATION will ever be sold, traded or given away for the purposes of marketing, no salesman will call. Remember that these profiles are viewable by the public. Please DO NOT share any information that you consider sensitive or private!!!
Member Profile Search Feature
A search feature is provided to allow you to find member's profile information quickly. Be aware that this search is simple in nature, and can't be refined to include or exclude words or phrases, or to narrow searches by adding delimiters. For instance, searching for 'Santa Cruz' would return results for all profiles which contain either or both words, so your results would include profiles of members in both Santa Fe, New Mexico as well as Santa Cruz, California. Searching for 'com' would return nearly all of the profiles as results, as '.com' is used as an extension on so many email and web addresses. Bottom line is that you may have to wade through a few more search results than necessary, but search is still faster than randomly clicking though profiles looking for the information you seek.
Hey! I registered, but my profile doesn't appear on the list!
First of all, your profile won't show until your account has been authorized by Michael. After that, you should know that there are several ways to view the member list. Try sorting the list by name, or joined date ascending/decending, or use the search link at the top of each screen to find your profile.

Coding
The RE Wrenches Member List was adapted from forum software created by the phpBB group by Mr. Sharkey.

phpBB 2 Issues
Who wrote this member list?
This software (in its unmodified form) is produced, released and is copyrighted phpBB Group. It has been heavily modified by Sharkey to function as a stand-alone member list for the RE Wrenches Mailing list. It is made available under the GNU General Public License and may be freely distributed; see link for more details.
Why isn't X feature available?
This software was written by and licensed through phpBB Group. If you believe a feature needs to be added then please visit the phpbb.com website and see what the phpBB Group has to say. Please do not post feature requests to the board at phpbb.com, as the Group uses sourceforge to handle tasking of new features. Please read through the forums and see what, if any, our position may already be for features and then follow the procedure given there. Also consider that this is Sharkey's first lesson in PHP, and he's doing the best he can.
Whom do I contact about abusive and/or legal matters related to this member list?
You should contact the administrator of this member list. If you cannot find who that is, you should the owner of the domain (do a whois lookup). Please note that phpBB Group has absolutely no control and cannot in any way be held liable over how, where or by whom this member list is used. It is absolutely pointless contacting phpBB Group in relation to any legal (cease and desist, liable, defamatory comment, etc.) matter not directly related to the phpbb.com website or the discrete software of phpBB itself. If you do email phpBB Group about any third party use of this software then you should expect a terse response or no response at all.
