I am continually mired in the midst of a seemingly endless solar home building/remodeling project with my wife/business partner Laura. In our (extremely limited) spare time we like to get outdoors and go hiking and camping. We spent a entire year abroad several years ago traveling across Australia, SE Asia and Europe on the cheap, carrying a radio-controlled kite aerial photography rig to research roofscapes for my wife's architecture thesis.
I am obsessed with gadgets and all things mechanical, am swift at troubleshooting, and have learned to solve problems on remote sites using whatever resources are at hand. I have a larger collection of generators than I care to admit, and I get a lot of joy out of fixing all things broken.

I started wrenching when I was 10 years old on my parents' PV system in the remote mountains of Southern Colorado. We had a motley collection of Arco PV modules, a Trace C-30 controller, six gigantic C&D telephone company batteries, and a Tripp-Lite inverter. Parts of that system are still in operation. Sometimes I find it odd that I was working on solar systems back in the early days just like many of the "old-timers" in the industry, yet am of a completely different generation.
Since then I have pursued (in various ways) a career in solar energy. I installed many small, remote, PV systems in the 90s for neighbors and friends, took a break from that for a while to get a mathematics degree and travel the world for several years, then moved to Berkeley (CA) and worked for some time doing grid-tied installations, and working on early product development for QuickMount PV.
In 2006 my wife and I moved back to Colorado with the intent of starting our own installation business, which we did, and which, though still a small operation, has grown to become a viable commercial enterprise.
We do off-grid and grid-tied PV, and some solar thermal work. We are excited to be working in the solar industry at this pivotal moment in RE. We live in Colorado's San Luis Valley, which has some of the best solar resources in the country, and is targeted for utility scale solar development, so we find ourselves doing a lot of work around the advocacy of distributed generation.
